Editorial Policy

Last Updated: September 1, 2026

At The Real Khabars, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity, truthfulness, and accountability. This Editorial Policy defines the fundamental principles, guidelines, and standards governing our news gathering, editing, and publishing practices.

1. Core Principles

  • Truth and Accuracy: We prioritize factual reporting above all else. Every story undergoes thorough verification before it reaches publication. Speculation, hearsay, and unconfirmed rumors are explicitly avoided or strictly contextualized.
  • Independence and Impartiality: Our editorial desk operates independently of political parties, corporate lobbies, special interest groups, and advertisers. We present facts fairly, allowing readers to form their own conclusions.
  • Public Interest: Our coverage focuses on issues that matter to the public—governance, civic rights, regional development, social justice, and systemic accountability.

2. Sourcing and Attribution

  • Primary Sources: Whenever possible, our reporting relies on first-hand interviews, official government records, verified data, and direct documentation.
  • Anonymous Sources: We use unnamed sources only when information cannot be obtained through official channels and when the source faces genuine risk of retaliation. The identity of such sources is always known to the senior editorial team.
  • Attribution: Information derived from other news outlets, research papers, or agencies is clearly and transparently credited.

3. Fact-Checking and Verification

  • Multi-Step Verification: Critical claims, statistics, and controversial assertions are cross-checked against multiple independent records or official documentation.
  • Visual Verification: Images, audio clips, and videos are verified for date, authenticity, and geographic location to avoid misleading or manipulated media.

4. Corrections and Updates Policy

Transparency is central to our credibility. When errors occur, we correct them swiftly and clearly:

  • Factual Corrections: Substantial errors of fact are corrected directly in the article body with an appended note at the top or bottom explaining the change and timestamping the edit.
  • Minor Typos: Spelling and grammatical corrections that do not alter the substance of the story are fixed directly without formal editor notes.
  • Developing Stories: Ongoing breaking news is marked as “Developing” or “Updated” with timestamps to reflect real-time updates as verified information emerges.

5. Distinction Between News, Opinion, and Commercial Content

  • News vs. Opinion: Straight reporting is kept distinct from columns, op-eds, and analytical commentary. Opinion pieces are labeled with the author’s byline and explicit tags (e.g., Opinion, Editorial, Analysis).
  • Sponsored Content: Any content funded by third-party advertisers or commercial partners is clearly labeled as Sponsored, Advertisement, or Brand Post. Advertisers exercise no editorial control over our core newsroom operations.

6. Fairness, Right to Reply, and Decency

  • Right of Reply: Individuals or organizations facing serious allegations in our reports are given a fair and reasonable opportunity to respond prior to publication. If a response is received after publication, the story is updated accordingly.
  • Sensitivity & Privacy: We adhere to ethical boundaries regarding sensitive matters. We do not publish gratuitous depictions of violence, nor do we disclose the identities of victims of sexual offenses, juveniles in legal conflict, or vulnerable individuals without legal authorization.

7. Plagiarism and Artificial Intelligence

  • Zero Tolerance for Plagiarism: Lifting text, photos, or data without attribution results in disciplinary action and content retraction.
  • Use of AI Tools: While automated tools may assist with research or layout workflows, all published text, headlines, and facts are written, reviewed, and finalized by human journalists.
